The angel's garb will be more like that of angels generally, and there will be no fish. Guardian-angel images usually lack these features. Raphael will usually have something that identifies him as a traveler, such as a broad hat and a staff with a gourd hanging from it. In images of Raphael and Tobias, one will likely see the fish that will be used to cure Tobit's blindness, held on a string by either Raphael or Tobias. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish the one type from the other. Guardian Angel images developed from the iconography of the Archangel Raphael ( Hammond, 86).
